Beware of the “bad apples” that come out collecting for victims of disaster. A Seattle news center recently provided an important reminder that while disaster victims are often targets for scams related to their recovery efforts, anyone donating to charities and relief organizations should be careful as well.
Cyber criminals send emails, and phone calls can sound threatening or urgent. Do your best to confirm the charities you give to are legitimate. The Better Business Bureau is a good resource.
